📝 Exam Pattern at a Glance

📚 High-Priority Syllabus + Strategy

General Awareness (Phase I) (80M)

  • Economy · Banking & Finance · Current Affairs · RBI policies · Budget · Social Issues · Government schemes · International finance

  • 💡 Highest weight in Phase I. Read RBI Annual Report + Economic Survey + 3 months current affairs. This section decides your Phase I rank.

Reasoning (Phase I) (60M)

  • Puzzles (floor/linear/circular) · Seating Arrangement · Syllogism · Coding-Decoding · Blood Relations · Input-Output · Critical Reasoning

  • 💡 Solve 30 varied puzzles daily. Critical Reasoning from GMAT-level material sets toppers apart.

ESI — Economic & Social Issues (Phase II) (High)

  • Growth & Development · India's monetary & fiscal policy · Poverty · Inflation · Employment · Social sector schemes · Global economy · Sustainable Development

  • 💡 Phase II ESI is the most important paper. Combine NCERT Eco + RBI publications + Economic Survey. Descriptive answers need structured opinions, not just facts.

Finance & Management (Phase II) (High)

  • Financial System of India · Capital Markets · Derivatives · Risk Management · RBI functions · Management theories · Corporate Governance · Ethics

  • 💡 Often underestimated — Management section has straightforward theory questions. Lock it in 2 weeks and free time for ESI.

🏆 Honest Verdict — Should You Apply?

Bottom Line

RBI Grade B is the most coveted non-IAS central government job in India. Gross salary ~₹1.5 lakh/month, defined pension, Staff Quarters, and the prestige of working at India's central bank. But with only 60 seats in 2026 — the lowest in years — this demands your absolute best preparation. If you're within the attempt limit and have the academic background, apply immediately and prepare like there's no tomorrow.

⚠️ Critical Instructions

  • Phase I marks do NOT countin final merit. Final merit = Phase II + Interview only. Don't over-invest in Phase I at the cost of Phase II prep.

  • Negative marking: −0.25 per wrong answer in Phase I. Don't guess blindly — skip if unsure.

  • General/EWS candidates have a maximum of 6 attempts. Check your attempt count before applying.

  • Detailed notification PDF available on rbi.org.infrom 29 April 2026 onwards. Read fully before applying.

  • Category-wise vacancy breakdown will be in the detailed notification PDF. Check before selecting your category.

  • DEPR and DSIM streams have better odds for eligible candidates — 10 posts each with a narrower applicant pool.

  • Call letters (admit cards) released 10–15 days before each phase. Keep checking opportunities.rbi.org.in.
