  • Dearness Allowance (DA)

  • House Rent Allowance (HRA)

  • Non-Practising Allowance (NPA)

💡 Non-Practising Allowance (NPA) is a significant additional allowance for government doctors — typically 25% of basic pay. This substantially increases effective take-home salary.

🎯 Selection Process

  1. Written Examination — CBT (2 Papers) ⭐ Most Critical — 500 Marks

Computer Based Test on 02 August 2026 (two shifts). Paper 1: General Medicine + Paediatrics (250 marks · 2.5 hrs). Paper 2: Surgery + Gynaecology & Obstetrics + Preventive & Social Medicine (250 marks · 2.5 hrs). Both papers are objective MCQ type. Negative marking: −1/3 per wrong answer. Merit list for Personality Test based on written exam marks only.

  2. Personality Test (Interview) 100 Marks

Only shortlisted candidates from written exam are called. Interview assesses personality, communication, and suitability for a government medical officer role. Final merit = Written marks + Interview marks (600 total).

  3. Document Verification + Medical Fitness

Original certificates verified including MBBS degree (or proof of passing for final year students). Medical fitness check as per service-specific standards. Offer issued after DV + medical clearance.

📝 Exam Pattern

⚠️ Negative marking of −1/3 applies to both papers. Do not randomly guess. Questions are at MBBS final year level. Clinical applications and case-based questions are common in both papers.

⚠️ Important Instructions

  • Negative marking −1/3 in BOTH papers — random guessing will significantly reduce your score. Skip uncertain questions.

  • Final year appearing students must provide proof of MBBS passing at the time of Personality Test (interview) — failing to do so leads to disqualification.

  • Admit card will be released at upsc.gov.in before the exam. Check regularly — UPSC does not send individual intimations.

  • OTR (One-Time Registration) was mandatory for applying. Use your OTR login to check application status and download admit card.

  • Exam is on 02 August 2026 (Sunday) in two shifts — both papers held on the same day at CBT centres across India.

  • Non-Practising Allowance (NPA) adds 25% of basic pay — significantly boosts total salary for all UPSC CMS posts.

  • Category I (CHS posts, 864 posts) has age limit of 35 years (General) — more opportunities for slightly older MBBS candidates.
