Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) have released the short notice for RRB ALP Recruitment 2026 under Centralised Employment Notification (CEN) No. 01/2026. A total of 11,127 vacancies have been announced for the post of Assistant Loco Pilot across all Indian Railway zones. The application window opens on 15 May 2026 and closes on 14 June 2026 at rrbapply.gov.in. Candidates with Class 10 and ITI (NCVT/SCVT) or Diploma in Engineering are eligible. Starting salary is ₹19,900/month under Pay Level-2 (7th CPC). Selection is through CBT 1, CBT 2, CBAT, Document Verification, and Medical Examination. 🎯 Selection Process — 5 Stages

1. CBT 1 — Stage 1 Qualifying Only

   75 questions · 60 minutes · 4 subjects: Mathematics (20Q) + General Intelligence & Reasoning (25Q) + General Science (20Q) + General Awareness (10Q). Qualifying stage only — marks not counted in final merit. Minimum marks required to pass: UR/EWS: 40% · OBC: 30% · SC/ST: 30%. Negative marking: −1/3 per wrong answer.
   

2. CBT 2 — Stage 2 ⭐ Merit Deciding Stage

   175 questions · 150 minutes · Part A: 100 Qs on Relevant Trade topics (based on ITI/Diploma trade) · Part B: 75 Qs (Mathematics, General Intelligence, Basic Science & Engineering, General Awareness). Negative marking: −1/3 per wrong answer. Merit list for CBAT is based on CBT 2 Part B marks only. Part A is qualifying (minimum 35% required).
   

3. CBAT — Computer Based Aptitude Test Qualifying

   Only for ALP (not Technician posts). Tests battery aptitude — Memory, Following Directions, Depth Perception, Concentration, Perceptual Speed. No negative marking in CBAT. Minimum T-Score of 42 required to qualify. Essential for safety of train operations.
   

4. Document Verification + Medical Examination

   Originals verified. Medical at Railway Hospital — vision and color blindness tested strictly. ALP requires Vision A2 standard. Colour Blindness is disqualifying. Physically unfit candidates can appeal to Appellate Medical Board.

Trade Technical Knowledge (CBT 2 Part A)

• Questions based on your ITI/Diploma trade: Fitter/Electrician/Mechanic Diesel trade-specific theory, practical concepts, safety standards, tools, equipment

• 💡 Part A is 100 Qs from your specific trade — this is your strongest subject. Revise ITI textbooks and NCVT exam papers. Minimum 35% is mandatory here.

⚠️ Critical Instructions

• Negative marking −1/3 in both CBT 1 and CBT 2. Never guess randomly. If unsure, skip. Attempting all questions blindly can reduce score below qualifying threshold.

• Colour Blindness will disqualify you at medical examination. If you have colour vision deficiency, think carefully before investing preparation time.

• Apply under only one RRB — candidates can submit only one application under one RRB. Multiple applications to different RRBs will lead to cancellation.

• Aadhaar verification is mandatory during registration at rrbapply.gov.in. Keep your Aadhaar linked to active mobile number before starting the form.

• CBT 2 Part A (trade-specific) requires minimum 35% marks to qualify. Merit is based only on CBT 2 Part B scores — not Part A.

• CBAT (Computer Based Aptitude Test) has no negative marking. Attempt all questions in CBAT section — minimum T-Score 42 is required.

• Fee refund on appearing: Gen/OBC/EWS gets ₹400 back, reserved categories get full ₹250 back. Effectively almost free exam if you appear.

• Running Allowance for ALP significantly increases take-home pay beyond ₹19,900 basic — it's kilometre-based and can add ₹5,000–15,000+ monthly.
